Machine tending automation cell

Problem

Northwestern Michigan College’s Industry 4.0 Laboratory required full integration of a UR10e robot and Haas Mill to complete their machine tending automation cell. The project was on a tight deadline and needed to be operational within 6 weeks.

Solution

Novum completed the machine tending automation cell integration within the required time constraints, which included the design of all electrical handshaking and safety interlock panels, and installation of a pneumatic solution for auto-clamping, all in a complete turn-key solution.

  • Developed electrical for component handshaking and safety interlocking

  • Developed pneumatic solution for UR robot vise auto-clamping and end-of-arm tooling

  • Integrated safety checks with proximity sensors and limit switches to ensure safe operation

  • Performed UR robot programming and validation
